International School Costa Brava is proud to announce the completion of its new greenhouse — a purpose-built living classroom where students can grow plants, observe ecosystems, and conduct real-life experiments that connect what they learn indoors with the natural world around them. From seedling to harvest, every stage of the process teaches children something essential: patience, responsibility, scientific observation, and a genuine care for the environment.
A Hands-On Space for Curious Minds
The greenhouse gives students the chance to engage with living science in a way that textbooks alone cannot provide. Children will plant seeds, monitor growth conditions, experiment with soil types, and record their findings — just like real scientists do. This kind of project-based learning develops critical thinking, teamwork, and curiosity in a meaningful, memorable way.
Students across all year groups will use the greenhouse as part of their regular curriculum, with activities adapted to each age group. Our Primary teachers, in particular, will design cross-curricular activities that link science with maths, literacy, and PSHE — reflecting the best of the British Primary education approach, where inquiry and hands-on exploration sit at the heart of how children learn best.
Environmental Awareness as a School Value
The greenhouse also reflects ISCB’s commitment to sustainability as a whole-school value. When children tend to plants, they naturally develop an understanding of where food comes from, how ecosystems function, and why protecting the environment matters — building a foundation of environmental responsibility from the earliest years.
The greenhouse is now ready to welcome its first groups of students, and we look forward to seeing what they grow — both literally and figuratively. If you’d like to learn more, we invite you to book a private tour of our campus.
