Emotional education, inclusion & wellbeing.
Empowering every student to thrive emotionally and academically
We want all children to enjoy school and develop a love of learning. Our students’ emotional well-being is fundamental to their academic achievement. Both in and out of class, our students are supported by a team of highly qualified teachers and specialist practitioners.
Inclusion & Wellbeing
Our inclusive approach: Language support
Upon arrival, teachers assess each student’s language proficiency to determine the appropriate placement. Our ultimate goal is to consistently support the student’s language acquisition journey, guiding them towards fluency in the language.
Students who do not have a strong grasp of English receive specific attention in small groups during their initial year with us. Throughout this first year, teachers assist them in catching up and having the level of English that allows them to access their lessons’ main content.
Bullying Prevention
At ISCB, we aim to nurture and develop SELF-ESTEEM, EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE, POSITIVE SOCIAL RELATIONSHIPS and INDEPENDENCE.
Our approach to bullying is based on SOCIAL PEDAGOGY and RESTORATIVE PRACTICE. Protecting our students from any kind of abuse is one of the priorities of International School Costa Brava.
Special Educational Needs
ISCB’s SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) department is led by qualified practitioners. We support students from the point of entry, closely monitoring progress and adapting both the curriculum and individual learning pathways so that every student can thrive and reach their full potential.
We work in partnership with families, teachers and—when needed—external specialists to ensure each learner’s needs are understood and met. Our approach is grounded in inclusion, classroom differentiation, and emotional wellbeing, with strategies that are agreed, reviewed and refined over time.
Students may also use our Sensory Room and Sensory Walk as part of personalised support.
It’s the team that identifies and supports students with special educational needs and coordinates the help they need to access learning confidently. The team works with teachers on reasonable adjustments and differentiation, monitors progress, partners with families, and—when appropriate—liaises with external specialists.
Sensory support
At ISCB, emotional education and inclusion are built into daily routines. Our sensory provision offers structured, supportive spaces that help students self-regulate, feel safe and return to learning—especially when they feel overwhelmed or need support with focus and transitions.
Sensory Room
Our Sensory Room is a calm, purpose-designed space used by our SEND (Learning Support) team and teachers to help students:
- develop self-regulation and reduce anxiety
- manage sensory needs through guided activities and resources
- practise focus, transitions and “ready to learn” routines
- build confidence through personalised strategies and classroom differentiation
Update (2026): Our Sensory Room is now in a new, larger space with expanded resources and more sensory elements. A new video is coming soon.
Sensory Walk
Our Sensory Walk is a guided pathway outside the classroom, designed to help students slow down and regain focus. It supports:
- emotional regulation and self-awareness
- calm transitions between activities
- confidence and readiness to learn
UNICEF Rights of the Child
ISCB is a UNICEF Rights Respecting School. We aim to protect and promote the rights of ALL children. The rights of the child guide our thinking in the formulation and application of our school policies and practice.
I love this school, I came from a school in which teachers used to make fun of you and make you feel bad, in which they don’t put effort into explanations. This school made me realize that I love learning, and that teachers will explain to you 100 times if it’s necessary and always with a smile. This school changed my life.
