ISCB Early Years: warm beginnings, playful learning

Where the learning adventure begins

At ISCB, Early Years (Nursery & Reception, ages 3–5) is where curiosity takes off. Children learn through purposeful play, stories, songs and rich talk, following the UK EYFS framework. We nurture the prime areas—Communication and Language, Personal, Social & Emotional Development, and Physical Development—and build early skills in Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts.

Full English immersion: our youngest learners are immersed in English all day. Catalan and Spanish begin in Year 2, once children have a strong foundation in English. This gentle sequence helps them develop confident communication, early phonics and a love of reading, while still valuing the languages and cultures of our community.

Learning flows indoors and outdoors—gardens, Forest School-style activities and sensory play—supported by caring adults who model kindness, independence and safe risk-taking. We keep groups small, observe each child closely and share simple updates with families, so everyone knows how learning is growing.

The result is a calm, joyful start to school life and a smooth bridge into Primary.
